World Usability Day - Success through Simplicity - Octopus in Hong Kong
In support of World Usability Day on Transport, UPA HK has invited Octopus, Hong Kong's pioneering transport and small payment card, to share how a focus on simple usability for both cardholders and the transport operators contributed to its success.
The Octopus card was launched by a consortium of the major transport operators (metro, rail, bus and ferry) in 1997. It is widely recognised as one of the world's leading automatic fare collection systems and has exported its operational expertise and central system to both the Netherlands and Dubai.

- Coverage of over 95% of the population (between 16 and 65)
- 3m cards issued in the first 3 months

Presenter
Antony Morris
Antony Morris as the Head of Corporate Development with the Octopus Group is responsible for spearheading Octopus' strategic business developments that seek to build on the success of Octopus in Hong Kong.
Antony has been involved in driving payment and financial services innovations in many markets, especially Asia, with HSBC and Octopus. He specialises in capitalising on latest technology developments to provide tangible business benefits whilst always striving to delight customers with simple, easy-to-use, intuitive services.

Daniel Szuc
Daniel Szuc is the Principal Consultant at Apogee Usability Asia Ltd, based in Hong Kong, and previously worked on a usability team for Telstra Australia.
He has lectured about usability, user-centered design and user experience in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, the US, New Zealand and Japan. He co-wrote The Usability Kit an implementation guide providing best practices and guidelines for usability teams – and holds a BS in Information Management from Melbourne University in Australia.
