Website evaluation: Hong Kong cinema websites as case study

In this seminar, Ada Yuen will introduce how website evaluation can be conducted using Hong Kong cinema websites as a case study.

The case study assumes that a staff from a Hong Kong cinema website needs to evaluate the usability aspect of his company and its main competitor's websites. The primary objective of the evaluation is to look for opportunities to increase the online ticket sales in the short and long runs.

Note: Ada is not affiliated with any Hong Kong cinema websites.

Target Audience:

  • Product managers

    • For your existing products, I wish to introduce some methods of evaluating them from the usability angle, and the values of the methods.

"Besides evaluating the speed, security and SEO aspects of my products, what other aspects of my products may I assess to boost the conversion?"

    • For your new product ideas, when you assess the requirements and the designs, you may consider additional usability criteria as if the products will be evaluated from the usability angle.

"If the software vendor implements the application in this way, many users may not want to
      transact online."

"My competitor's website has this new feature. Do I need a similar feature on mine?"

  • Web designers and developers

    • When your clients ask you to deliver a product by referring you similar products that their competitors have, you may consider evaluating the products including the usability aspect first, so that you may avoid making the competitors’ mistakes, and learning from the good design components.

    • When you explain your website designs to your clients, you may consider projecting how the end users are able to use the sites to achieve their goals effectively (positive evaluations), and how your clients’ business objectives would be met.

    • "We recommend the product information to be displayed in this way, so that the shoppers can see the information that is most important to them immediately."

  • Usability practitioners

    • I wish to hear your thoughts on product evaluation, and let me learn from you
